The Boogeyman - Back to the Closet

Ok, so it's been a while since my last review. I'll be honest, I've become very disenfranchised with the whole movie scene this year. It seems like one after another, each movie comes out and is just, well, garbage. So I started to think, why rate movies at all if the ratings never really change much? Then the hiatus. Diablo 4 came out in the meantime, and yes, I've spent a lot of time playing that too, but I've also watched A LOT of movies in the last few months. What has suddenly brought me back to share my views with you today you might ask? A friend's Facebook post of all things. "Just watched 'The Boogeyman'. This may be the scariest thing I've ever seen", and then I threw up in my mouth a little. So here we go. Yes, I've watched The Boogeyman. Image by IMDB Let's start by saying this is far from the worst movie I have seen, after all, I've watched the Requin and half of Drown the Clown (That review for another day *gross

Burryed In the Sand - Ant Man 3: Quantumania

Coming off of a dismal Phase 4, I had hopes for Ant Man 3. Not many, but I had them. I liked the first two Ant Man movies and I was almost excited to start Phase 5 and get that other garbage off my mind. Oh dear. I wish I had stayed in Phase 4. Photo by The News Fetcher This movie did everything in it's power to force the normal Disney tropes down your throat: The original main character isn't actually the main character of his own movie, he's now and idiot that can't do anything right. The youngest character is somehow a genius and figures out technology that even the great Hank Pym couldn't grasp really. Cassie is an absolute terrible character now. When we saw her briefly in End Game, she was emotional, but stable. Happy to see her father and seemingly fitting into the "normal" family being built with Wasp and Ant Man. In this movie, she needs to fit the Disney archetype of "If you're a female, you need to be better than everyone at everything

Great Adventure - Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Well it was bound to happen at some point. A good movie has finally hit theatres. Dungeons and Dragons had recently made headlines for greedy practices outside of the theatre, so I went into the movie with admittedly low expectations. Finally, I was wrong. Finally a movie in 2023 worth the price of admission for me. Picture by Forbes Also admittedly, I am a D&D player. I have been most of my life. So to say I'm biased is easy, but in a lot of cases, I expected that to work against my review of the movie before seeing it. The plot of the film is very over-the-top, but this works because many D&D adventurers are just like that. It really reminded me of a simpler time when you could just watch a movie and just enjoy it for what it was. The lore is obviously not the same as it was in the D&D lore books. By many accounts, there was no real way for a lot of the core material to be properly adapted to the screen. However, the things that were, were done very right in my opinio

Take Another Pipe - Super Mario Bros Movie

Ok, so I now understand why there are so many critics divided on this film. There will be no spoilers for this one as it is so new. I can easy see the good in the film, but I also can’t ignore the blatant issues that are present. So, let's-a-go. Picture from Pluggedin I really enjoyed the portrayal of Princess Peach. She was a powerful, fairly well written character that did not need to step on the male characters to stand out from the rest. Although, there was something.... off about her actual character model. Her face was more, pointy maybe? It wasn't bad, but it was, strange was all. The environments were breath-takingly spectacular. So well, designed. Hit right in the nostalgia. Many things were done so very right in regard to keeping to the video games. From the blocks to the world building, everything had a proper place from the games. No Honey For Pooh (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey review)

Ok let's get this one over with. Now, to say I was intrigued when I heard that no only had Winnie The Pooh's copyright changed to Public, but that someone was already making a horror movie based on the events at the 100 Achre Woods, would have been an understatement. I knew not to expect much from this, but the premise was golden: a childhood story retold definitely not how you remember it. I was hoping to see a dark fairy tale like the original Three Little Pigs story or the original Hansel and Grettle story (PS if you haven't read those original stories, they're pretty horific to say the least). What we got...well....the budget for this movie was 100k. That's what you got. Don't forget, Downy Jr. Made millions alone just to be in Infinity War, so 100k budget for everything in the film....sounds like a dumster fire. Oh yes, the flames were high on this one.
